Endoscopy Day
So I had the pleasure of an endoscopy in SLC today. You may recall that my interventional radiologist (IR) told me to go get that stent that the endoscopist (END) placed a while back as it was no longer necessary with the biliary drain I have now. So here is the exchange of docs with me as intermediary:
ME (to IR): Hey I’m going in to the END to have my temporary stent replaced
IR: Tell him to simply pull the stent as it is no longer necessary
ME (to END): Hey IR says to pull the stent as it is no longer necessary
END: Hey tell the IR to pull the drain out and we can place an internal permanent stent to replace the drain and solve the problem internally with no external equipment.
IR: Hey you tell him to pull his junk out!
END: Hey you tell him to pull his junk out!
IR: No you tell him to pull his junk out!
END: No, he needs to pull his junk out!
Actually, I think the docs are somewhat on the same page and that page includes a good possibility of me losing this external biliary drain with would be freaking sweet. So Y90 Sir Sphere therapy begins on the 25th and somewhere before, after, in between, we may be able to lose the plumbing. I’ll let you know.

Wow! That’s great news - hope it’s soon. I saw my surgeon yesterday to talk about possibly going back to a permanent bag because of the challenges I’ve had. She said it’s too soon - I need to try more fiber. My accupuncture therapist says I need to see a naturopath. I’m surgeon said sure, knock yourself out but take it all with a grain of salt. I’m sure my oncologist will have nothing to say. It amazes me more every day how each doc lives in their own little world - like each one is their own separate country that knows little to nothing about what the other countries have to offer.

Being an RN for 35+ years I’ve gotten used to varied opinions of doctors. Thea was re-attached 2 months ago and is SLOWLY getting some normalcy. Hang in there Belle. Matt, your trip has been amazing! It’s hard to listen to people whine at work after following the bullshit you had to put up with. A little bile in their coffee would brighten my day.

Yeah, they suck, no doubt. Military doctors are mostly “doctor” and only a little “military” so you can imagine my frustrations. My first onc was a wet-behind-the-ears army CAPT who introduced himself by saying “Hi, I’m doctor smith, I’m transferring in two months, so…”. I fired him and got the senior colonel as my onc, much better…but still, they’re docs, and just like civilian docs they exist in their own little specialties too much.
Good deal with the drain-hope you lose it (the drain that is).

Hey Matt - just thinking about you and wondering how you’re doing. Any news on the drain? How did the first SIR treatment go? Hopefully uneventful (on the SIR that is). The Naturopath told me I need to give up dairy (eggs are okay); so I’ve been off the milk products for almost 2 weeks now. Pretty hard at first, but I’m trying. Time will tell if this has much effect. If he suggests I give up wine, beer and coffee, we may have a problem.
