An Update

So, I’m still waiting out for Sir Sphere therapy to my liver.  A few weeks ago I had a stent placement by endoscope to open a bilary duct.  The intervention radiologist wants my liver function better before he starts hitting it with radiation.  So, I get a call today from the doc who says that looking at the recent CT Scan I still have a 2/3 blockage of bilary ducts even with the stent. That would explain the itching and jaundice.

So, a new procedure.  The doc wants to do a minor surgical procedure where he installs a drain tube from the bilary duct to the colon. Ok, sounds cool. However, there is a 40% chance it wont work and they will have to PERMANENTLY drain bile into an external bag, like a colostomy.  Except, rather than shit you are draining bile.  I have to say this spooks me a little.  I know people live with colostomies, but I am still a little worried.  I don’t think I have many options here, so I will probably schedule it within about a week.  Crossin my fingers because it works just as good as prayer.  Out.

You must be getting that ‘lab rat’ feeling right about now. I’ll ask my friend in Pa. to break a coupe of fingers for you, he collects for the bookies up there. Human sacrifice has been outlawed since the ’30’s in Northeast PA., otherwise I’m sure one of my buddies would volunteer just to get out of his marriage…(no divorcing for Irish catholics, can’t piss off the pope, just ask Mel Gibson).

I will send a burning surfboard out to sea under the full moon to appease the gods. It’s the traditional surf bum way.

Wow. It never ends does it. I had an ileostomy for a year and although I was pretty sure it was the end of the world, turns out it wasn’t. But I’ll spare you the rah-rah go ostomy talk. Since you’ve got your fingers crossed, I’ll cross my toes - and just hope for the best. I’m so sorry you are having to go through this crap.

Adding my voice to the “what next/that sucks” chorus about your latest venture into surgery. You trailblazer, you.

    Ditto all that….

    Here’s hoping you’re in the 60%….

    Cheers.
